U.S. MINT IN PHILADELPHIA RETAINS CWS TO SECURE WINDOWS, CONSERVE ENERGY
PHILADELPHIA For the second time in seven years, Commercial Window Shield has been retained by the federal government to complete a security window film project at the historic United States Mint in Philadelphia.
The project calls for the installation of 8-mil clear fragment retention window film on the Mint’s second and third floors utilizing a wet glaze attachment system.
Meanwhile, a more complex process has been developed by CWS engineers for the high traffic and visible first floor visitors lobby. There, CWS will first remove a clear security film the company installed in 2006. In its place, CWS will install an 8-mil tinted film with fragment retention and solar reflective capabilities. Additionally, as part of the project’s security requirement, CWS will be anchoring the building’s old, operable windows to the building frame, rendering them safely inoperable.
The Philadelphia Mint is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions and an important part of American history. To avoid conflicting with the Mint’s busy schedule, CWS installers, who were required to pass strict security clearance, will be working nights and on weekends to complete the project.
Commercial Window Shield previously secured the windows in the Denver Mint prior to the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Commercial Window Shield is the world’s largest installer of fragment retention and solar reflective window films. Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 25 years are the U.S. Capitol, House of Representatives, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O Hare International Airport and the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower].
