SIMSBURY, Conn. A Hartford County town, continuing a trend in the wake of increased violent intrusions in schools across the country, has hired Commercial Window Shield to protect windows and doors in its school buildings through the installation of shatter resistant window film.

Commercial Window Shield will begin installing an 8-mil clear film with a wet glaze attachment system on Dec. 18. The work is expected to be completed on time by Jan. 1.

The project will secure all the entry ways, doors and vulnerable first floor windows in one high school, one middle school and five elementary school buildings that house nearly 5,000 students, 383 teachers and 757 other employees in the Simsbury Public Schools district. The installation of the security film will help keep unwanted intruders from entering the school buildings, protecting the students, teachers and staff.

The film will also help protect the windows during potential hurricanes – such as Irene in 2011 and Sandy last year  and tornadoes.

Commercial Window Shield was hired for similar projects by 36 school districts in Long Island, N.Y., in July and another Connecticut school district  Glastonbury  in August. The Simsbury project was a competitive bid, allowing the town to choose the company it felt had the most experience and would do the best job. Glastonbury officials had given rave reviews on Commercial Window Shield’s performance to Simsbury’s town council.

With nearly 35 years experience, Commercial Window Shield is the nation’s leading security and solar reflective window film installer. In the northeast, CWS’s projects include Merrill Lynch’s twin corporate headquarter towers, across from Ground Zero; Grand Central Terminal; Ernst & Young headquarters; and the YMCA in Brooklyn. Elsewhere, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, Pentagon, all House of Representative buildings, O Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver Mint and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
