WHITEMAN AFB, Mo.  Commercial Window Shield has been contracted to protect the building windows at one of the country’s most important military bases.

Shatter resistant film with wet glaze attachment will be installed on the windows of 11 buildings at Whiteman Air Force Base beginning Nov. 18.   As a result, 1,655 panes of glass will be protected from any potential catastrophic terrorist or weather event.

K & K Industries of Newberry, Mich. was chosen as the overall project’s general contractor through a bid process. Commercial Window Shield was selected by K & K for the shatter resistant film project because of its vast experience on military bases throughout the country. The company was also recently awarded a significant window film installation contract at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

The high-security Whiteman project involves coordinating a tight schedule around buildings that are fully occupied. The completion deadline is early December.

Whiteman is a joint-service base including Air Force, Army and Navy units. It’s home to the Air Force’s 509th Bomb Wing and is the only permanent base for the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.

Commercial Window Shield is the world’s largest installer of fragment retention and solar reflective window films. Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 25 years are the U.S. Capitol, House of Representatives, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O Hare International Airport and the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower].
