HOUSTON – Commercial Window Shield has completed a security window film installation project for the largest chartered school district in Texas.

The project, for Harmony Public Schools involved the installation of a safety and security window film with a wet glaze attachment system on all ground floor glass at the system’s 74 buildings.

In total, Commercial Window Film installed over 215,000 sq. ft. of shatter-resistant window film and over 150,000 lineal feet of wet glaze attachment to Harmony Schools’ buildings. Harmony is the largest schools security window film installation project in the company’s history.

Harmony’s 74 buildings are scattered over five campuses in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso and Austin. Administrative offices are in Houston.

Competitive Bid

Commercial Window Shield was awarded the contract after a competitive bidding process. The project started in September, 2024, and was substantially completed in February.

Time constraints and the project’s massive scope necessitated simultaneous installation activity at harmony’s campuses. Commercial Window Shield was able to organize multiple teams of highly skilled security window film installers to make sure the work was done right and completed on time.

Funding for the project came from the Texas’s School Safety Standards Formula initiative, which allocated $400 million to public schools for enhanced safety. The initiative was sparked by a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in May 2022 during which 19 students and two teachers were killed and 17 students wounded by a lone gunman who entered the school through a building door.

The Harmony Public Schools security window film installation project continues a national trend.  School districts are acting to protect their students and employees from potential violent building intruders with the installation of safety and security window film in vulnerable glass entry areas.
