TULSA, Oklahoma  British Petroleum has retained Commercial Window Shield to protect the windows in its critical, national pipeline control center.

The control center, on the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa campus, is at risk because of its location within the countrys infamous Tornado Alley and a number of bomb threats in recent years. As a result, BP officials want to protect their employees from the potential danger of flying glass from inclement weather or terrorist attack. In addition to employee safety, BP needs to minimize any downtime from weather or other events because of the importance of the control center to its U.S. distribution network.

During its presentation to BP officials, CWS engineers demonstrated the effectiveness of fragment retention film and installed samples on the center’s windows that proved to be esthetically pleasing as well.

CWS will install a 8-mil clear security film with a wet glaze attachment system to the buildings windows. The project is schedule to begin Nov. 4 and be completed Nov. 15. The strict deadline must be met by CWS installers to ensure there is no down time at the center.

It was in nearby Oklahoma City in 1995 that a bomb set off at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building by Timothy McVeigh claimed 163 lives and injured 680. A number of the casualties were the result of flying glass. Since then, Commercial Window Shield has completed hundreds of security window film installation projects all over the country that have protected buildings and saved lives. They include the U.S. Capitol, all the House of Representative buildings, FBI headquarters, Pentagon, Denver Mint, O Hare International airport, Grand Central Terminal and the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower].
