Blast mitigation
Commercial Window Shield was retained by the city of Chicago’s Department of Aviation to protect the enormous panes of glass at the arrival and departure areas in United Airline’s Terminal 1 at O’Hare International Airport. The project called for fragment retention window film to be installed on 37,500 sq. ft. of glass in a crowded, busy environment. [O’Hare is the country’s third busiest airport.] CWS installers applied an 8-mil clear fragment retention film with a four-sided mechanical anchoring system utilizing structural silicone to hold the window film in place.
Original specifications of the project developed by the architect and engineering firms not feasible. Commercial Window Shield, as usual, offered an alternative, more effective plan utilizing its own engineering calculations and installation design. Our plan worked to perfection. The highly visible project was completed on time and to the satisfaction to all parties involved.
