IMF Chooses CWS to Remove, Install Security Window Film at D.C. HQ
WASHINGTON – The International Monetary Fund has hired Commercial Window Shield for a security window film removal and installation project at its headquarters in the nation’s capitol.
The project, which will begin on floors 11-13 in the 13-story building, first calls for removal of the original 8-mil security window film and its custom batten bar retention system. The film was installed in 2003 and is now out of warranty.
Once the film and attachment system is removed, Commercial Window Shield will re-install 8-mil security window film and a new custom batten bar retention system to secure the film.
The project went through a bid process, after which IMF chose Commercial Window Shield.
The initial three floors, which houses IMF’s executive staff, is going through a renovation process. As a result, precise coordination will be required between IMF, the general contractor and Commercial Window Shield to make sure both projects run smoothly and are completed in a timely manner.
IMF tapped Commercial Window Shield’s extensive experience in shatter resistant window film installation on significant buildings around the country to help develop the project’s specifications. Additionally, IMF requested that the company complete a 50-window safety and security window film installation pilot project on the 11th floor. The pilot project was completed Nov. 19. The rest of the project will start in January.
The building, known as HQ1, is located at 700 19th St. NW, two blocks from the White House. A second IMF building, HQ2, is located across the street from HQ1. HQ1 has more than 4,600 panes of glass, which will require more than 100,000 square feet of safety and security window film to protect.
IMF is a United Nations organization with 189 member nations involved in solving international financial crises, managing balance of payment difficulties and managing other international economic and financial issues.
Commercial Window Shield is one of the country’s largest installers of security and solar control window films. Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 30+ years are the U.S. Capitol, all House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], the United Nations, and the Philadelphia and Denver mints.
