VORNADO PICKS CWS FOR SECURITY FILM PROJECT ON HISTORIC D.C. BUILDING
WASHINGTON Vornado/Charles E. Smith has selected Commercial Window Shield for a security window film installation project on a historic building in the nation’s capitol.
The project, at the Bowen Building, two blocks from the White House at the corner of Eye and 15th streets, calls for the installation of 7-mil clear film on 699 windows. GSA recently signed a lease with Vornado for the building’s tenant, the U.S. Department of Treasury, triggering a security upgrade requirement that included window protection.
Built in 1922, the Bowen Building was restored in 2005. The building features a number of antique wood-framed windows that will require a careful, customized approach to film installation, a Commercial Window Shield specialty.
Vornado hired Commercial Window Shield for the project because of its ability to handle complex projects on short notice and complete them on time. Film installation at the Bowen Building begins March 8 and must be completed by March 25.
Over the past 10 years, Commercial Window Shield has installed security window film on more than 30 Vornado buildings in the Washington, D.C. area as part of GSA’s lease renewal security requirements. Vornado/Charles E. Smith is the largest owner/property manager in the national capitol region. The federal government leases space in a number of the company’s 73 Washington-area buildings.
Commercial Window Shield is the country’s largest installer of security and solar window films. Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 30 years are the U.S. Capitol, all House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], the United Nations, and the Philadelphia and Denver mints.
