SAFETY/SECURITY WINDOW FILM PROJECT COMPLETED AT CHICAGO-AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
GENEVA, Ill. Commercial Window Shield has completed a safety and security window installation project at a suburban Chicago school district, one of three such projects in the area.
The project, at Geneva Community Unit School District 304, involved installing multiple-ply security film with 4-sided perimeter wet glaze attachment to entryways and other vulnerable first-floor glass in nine school buildings.
They did a fantastic job, said Amy Campbell, the district’s safety coordinator. The school board was very impressed during the walk through.
During the project, Commercial Window Film installers discovered older film that had been improperly installed in one of the schools and corrected the problem.
Initially, the project architect asked for a national brand security film to be installed. But Commercial Window Shield Engineers supplied data and test results for an equivalent film that was accepted and presented a more affordable solution.
Funding for the project came in part from an Illinois Emergency Management Agency grant. The grant only covered film installation on the entryways in the nine school buildings and first-floor glass at Geneva High School. School officials wanted all first-floor windows protected in all of the buildings, so they tapped a reserve fund to cover the extra cost.
The Geneva project comes at a time when school districts around the country are acting to protect their buildings from potential violent intrusions. Commercial Window Shield has become one of the country’s go-to companies in glass security for school buildings. Also in the Chicago area, the company is involved in film installation projects at Minook and Lake Zurich school districts. Â Elsewhere, Commercial Window Shield has completed safety and security film projects at Calvert County [Md.] Public Schools; Bath Local Schools, near Lima, Ohio; Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, N.Y.; and Glastonbury, Hartford and Simsbury school districts in Connecticut.
With nearly 35 years experience, Commercial Window Shield is the nation’s leading security and solar reflective window film installer. Among its many projects, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, Pentagon, and all House of Representative buildings, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver and Philadelphia mints, Grand Central Terminal and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
