LORING AFB RETAINS CWS FOR GLASS PROTECTION PROJECT
IMESTONE, Maine As the U.S. armed forces continue their push to protect all their stateside buildings in the wake of increased terrorism, the Air Force has selected Commercial Window Shield for a glass protection project at Loring Air Force Base.
The project involves removal of existing security window film and Dow 995 perimeter attachment installed more than 10 years ago. That security film is now out of warranty and is being replaced with 8-mil clear film with Dow’s wet glaze attachment system.
Commercial Window Shield was selected for the project in a bid process. The company will draw on its recent experience installing window security and solar films at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calf.
Terrorist attacks are on the rise in the United States as the Islamic State continues its effort to recruit individual Americans. Most recently, Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez shot and killed four Marines and a member of the U.S. Navy in a July 16 attack in Chattanooga, Tenn. Abdulazeez, who later killed himself, first shot up an armed forces recruiting center entrance, which was protected with safety and security film. Although the bullets shattered the glass, the glass remained in the frame – strong and secure – denying the shooter access to the building. Abdulazeez then drove to the U.S. Naval and Marine Reserve Center, where he killed the military members and himself.
With more than 30 years experience, Commercial Window Shield is the nation’s leading security and solar window film installer. Among its many projects, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, Pentagon, and all House of Representative buildings, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver and Philadelphia mints, Grand Central Terminal and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
