HENRY COUNTY [VA.] SCHOOLS RETAIN CWS TO INSTALL SAFETY AND SECURITY FILM ON SCHOOL BUILDINGS
COLLINSVILLE, Va. Henry County Public Schools has become one of the first school districts in Virginia to install safety and security window film on its school buildings after being awarded a grant from the state.
Commercial Window Shield of Taylors S.C, one of the country’s leading installers of safety and security window films, was awarded the contract.
The project, completed today, called for 8-mil safety and security film to be installed on the first-floor entryways and doors in five school buildings two high schools, two middle schools and one elementary school.
The original spec called for the film to be installed to the glass without an attachment system, which would have rendered the film ineffective. Commercial Window Shield engineers demonstrated how the film should be affixed to the glass utilizing a wet-glaze attachment system. Once school officials understood the correct installation process to maximize security, they re-bid the project with the attachment system requirement. Commercial Window Shield was the low bidder.
In September, Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed a bill awarding 100 Virginia school districts $6 million to upgrade security in their school buildings.
“Investing in security improvement that will protect our children while they are in school is critical towards building a new Virginia economy where students can learn and succeed,” Governor McAuliffe said. “These grants will result in safer environments for teaching and learning for thousands of students and educators.”
The Henry County project continues a national trend in which school districts are acting to protect their buildings from potential violent intrusions.
Elsewhere, Commercial Window Shield has completed safety and security film projects at Geneva, Minooka and Lake Zurich school districts in suburban Chicago; Calvert County [Md.] Public Schools; Bath Local Schools, near Lima, Ohio; Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, N.Y.; and Glastonbury, Hartford and Simsbury school districts in Connecticut.
With more than 30 years experience, Commercial Window Shield is the nation’s leading security and solar reflective window film installer. Among its many projects, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, Pentagon, and all House of Representative buildings, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver and Philadelphia mints, Grand Central Terminal and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
