SEATTLE – Commercial Window Shield has received high praise from officials after completing a complex and challenging security film installation project at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport [Sea-Tac], the nation’s ninth busiest airport.

“The work produced by Commercial Window Shield at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport project was of excellent quality,” said Lisa Mach, resident engineer at the Port of Seattle, which manages the airport. “With all the unknowns, you did a great job overcoming the learning curve and executing the project.”

Sea-Tac officials decided to upgrade security at the airport following the widely publicized attack on Brussels Airport in 2016 during which 32 people died and more than 300 were injured. The shatter resistant film installation project was part of a large renovation project at the airport.

The security window film project involved installing 8-mil clear shatter resistant window film with a perimeter wet glaze attachment system to all the airport entrance side windows on the baggage, parking and terminal levels and at Gina Marie Lindsey Arrivals Hall, adjacent to Terminal A. In total, film was installed on over 3,000 panes of glass totaling over 80,000 sq. ft. of security window film and 76,000 lineal feet of wet glaze.

What impressed airport officials the most was that the project required precise planning and coordination between Commercial Window Shield and airline and airport officials since the airport never closes and often is packed with passengers and airport employees. Much of the work was completed at night. The size and scope of the project also required a number of unique installation procedures developed by the company’s experienced engineers. This has long been a Commercial Window Shield forte and one reason the company has been so successful for so many years.

Commercial Window Shield was hired by the renovation project’s general contractor, Osborne Construction Co. of Kirkland, Wash. Osborne chose the company over a number of other security window installation firms because of its considerable experience. Previously, Commercial Window Shield installed shatter resistant window film at Terminal 1 at O’Hare International Airport, the country’s third busiest airport.

Additionally, Commercial Window Shield has installed security and solar control window film at the U.S. Capitol, all U.S. House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Veterans Administration and Energy Department headquarters, FBI headquarters, Grand Center Terminal, Merrill Lynch towers, George Brown Convention Center in Houston, and the Denver and Philadelphia mints.
