CWS CONTRACTED BY HITT TO INSTALL SOLAR SECURITY FILM ON SUBURBAN D.C. BUILDING
ARLINGTON, Va. HITT Contracting has hired Commercial Window Shield to install solar security film on a Crystal City building for a high-profile federal government agency.
Due to security protocol, a number of specific details on the project can’t be released.
Commercial Window Shield will install 8-mil tinted security film on 45,000 sq. ft. of glass covering all 15 floors of the building and a partial floor of a nearby building, which houses another tenant.
Additionally, the company will install decorative film on all the glass conference rooms on the 15-story building, which is going through a complete renovation for its new tenant.
When the General Services Administration signed a lease with the buildings owner, it triggered a security upgrade requirement that included window film installation. Commercial Window Shield, in discussions about the project with the building owner for 18 months, persuaded them to opt for the tinted security film option for its energy savings and eventual payback component.
The building owner contracted with HITT to renovate the 15-story building. Prior to the project going out to bid, Commercial Window Shield, which has a long-term relationship with the building owner, installed numerous mock-ups to help the owner choose the right film. CWS was then sub-contracted by HITT to perform all the window film installation after a competitive bidding process.
Previously, HITT retained Commercial Window Shield for a security window film installation project at Skyline Towers in Falls Church, Va., where the Social Security Administration is the tenant. The new project will begin in the spring and be completed in early summer.
Commercial Window Shield is the country’s largest installer of security and solar window films. Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 30 years are the U.S. Capitol, all House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], the United Nations, and the Philadelphia and Denver mints.
