CWS Completes Phase 2 of Security Window Film Installation Project at Long Island School District
BELLMORE, N.Y. — Commercial Window Shield has completed Phase 2 of a safety and security window film installation project at a New York state school district.
The project involved installing a 21-mil clear film with a perimeter wet glaze attachment system on all upper floor windows of the three elementary school buildings in the Bellmore Union Free School District.
It was completed on time as the new school year was about to begin and class disruptions were avoided.
In Phase 1, completed last year, Commercial Window Shield installed 21-mil film with a perimeter wet glaze attachment system to all the lower floor windows and entranceways of the same buildings.
The district initiated the project to protect its students, faculty and employees against unwanted intrusions and foul weather events.
Commercial Window Shield’s significant experience in protecting school buildings played an important role in the project. Prior to Phase 1, during the bid process, the company’s engineers advised Bellmore officials that the job specification calling for the security film to achieve ballistic resistance was not possible. Once clarified, the specification was revised from ballistic resistant to anti-intrusion as the end result of the safety and security film installation.
Bellmore officials included piggyback language in the contract which allows other Long Island School districts to contract with Commercial Window Shield by using the unit pricing that is spelled out in the contract. This eliminates the need for a lengthy bid process.
The Bellmore project continues a national trend in which school districts are acting to protect their buildings from potential violent intruders with the installation of safety and security window film. Including Bellmore, the company has protected the glass in more than 330 school buildings in nine states.
Elsewhere, the company has completed safety and security film projects at Geneva, Minooka and Lake Zurich school districts in suburban Chicago; Calvert and Carroll County [Md.] Public Schools; Mechanicsburg and Bath Local Schools, near Lima, Ohio; Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, N.Y.; Hartford, Glastonbury and Simsbury school districts in Connecticut; Norfolk and Henry County in Virginia; Beaverton, Ore.; Lansdale, Pa. and Katy and Rockwell schools districts in Texas.
With more than 30 years experience, Commercial Window Shield is one of the nation’s leading security and solar control window film installers. Among its many projects, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, FBI headquarters, Pentagon, all House of Representative buildings, O’Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver Mint, Grand Central Terminal and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
