U.S. Capitol Building
Commercial Window Shield was interviewed several times (along with many other companies) to judge whether we were capable of handling the installation of fragment retention film to arguably the most important building in the world. We conducted a face to face meeting on the 2nd of October and had a crew on site on October 5th. By Sunday night, we had over 50 installers from all over the country converge on Washington and started the project at the Capitol Building on Monday morning,
October 8th. The Capitol Building is one of the hardest film installations in the nation. Under normal circumstances, this project would take up to 6 months to complete. We essentially completed the Capitol Building in 4 days.
The Capitol was the smallest of the projects we had which included four House of Representative Buildings (Rayburn, Longsworth, Cannon and Ford) as well as the three Library of Congress Buildings (Adams, Jefferson and Madison). We also did work at the Power Plant, O'Neil House Office Building, Botanical Gardens and House Page Dorm. The entire project -- all buildings -- were completed in 40 days and the crews were sent home two days before Thanksgiving. This 40 days included about a 10 day downtime because of building shut downs due to the anthrax scare.
Nothing like this has ever been done in the window film industry -- mobilizing the best installer from around the country on an instant's notice and bringing them all together to tackle such a gargantuan
task. In all, several hundreds of thousands of square feet of Armorcoat fragment retention film were installed on some of the hardest and most important buildings in the world. The work was done under the tightest security conditions and with the utmost cooperation and coordination from the Architect of the Capitol superintendents.
