CHARACTER OF PROJECT:
From March 2002 through August 2003, Commercial Window Shield supplied and installed fragment retention film to more than 16,900 panes of glass – nearly 500,000 square feet. This work has been done in 14 separate buildings. All of the work has required that the installers be cleared through the Department of Defense NCIC security check system.
Some projects required that the installers be escorted full time while others required escorts for particularly sensitive areas of the building only. All of the work was performed in fully occupied buildings and usually during normal working hours. Many of these buildings housed military personnel of various ranks, including generals.
Most of the work performed involved the use of a heavy fragment retention film with four-sided structural silicone frame attachment. The film type ranged from a clear film for blast protection only to a specially made reflective film to satisfy the energy saving requirements of a commercial building owner to a very specialized high performance film with Electromagnetic Interference properties.
With Washington, DC being a prime target of terrorists and many of the buildings being in close proximity to the Pentagon, PFPA was interested in getting this work done quickly. Commercial Window Shield was often working in multiple buildings simultaneously. A complete list of the buildings involved is available upon request.
As with any government agency, people change positions, retire or move out of the area.
Commercial Window Shield will attempt to get you in touch with people familiar with this work if required.
