Chooser

fragment retention film

O’Hare International Airport
United Airlines – Terminal 1
Chicago, IL

NATURE OF PROJECT:
Blast Mitigation

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Sq.Ft. of glass protected – 37,500
Lineal Ft. of attachment installed – 25,254
- original design was for 4-sided mechanical anchoring
- structural silicone anchoring of the film was required

TYPE OF FILM INSTALLED:
Armorcoat 8-mil clear

CHARACTER OF PROJECT:
The project was required to protect the extensive glass located at the arrivals and departure areas of the terminal.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
The design by the architect and engineering firms was not feasible. Commercial Window Shield offered alternatives with engineering calculations and installation design. The project required three scissors lifts and a 40’ articulating boom to reach the top of the extremely large panes of glass.

GENERAL CONTRACTOR COMMENT:
“The mark of a good company is its ability to perform under adverse conditions. There were plenty of adverse conditions and Commercial Window Shield handled them and produced a very good end result. Not only was the work completed and done well but it was completed nearly 6 months ahead of schedule. The City of Chicago wrote a letter to the Construction Management firm for United Airlines and congratulated them, us and Commercial Window Shield on the fine job. I am extremely happy that we worked with Commercial Window Shield. I’m not sure what kind of problems we would have been up against if we had used a different company.”
