JACKSON FEDERAL BUILDING

PROJECT:
Jackson Federal Building
Seattle, WA

OWNER:
Federal Government

PROJECT COMPLETION:
August 2005

NATURE OF PROJECT:
Existing vertical blinds were removed and replaced with new manually operated roller shades. Motorized shades for the 4th floor auditorium were supplied and installed as well.

TYPE OF BUILDING:
This is a prominent and very visible 35-story building in downtown Seattle. The building houses several government agencies.

COMPLEXITY OF THE PROJECT:
The vertical blinds had tracks installed at the windowsill, which had to be removed as part of the contract. Removal of the tracks left screw holes, which were filled and repaired.

Installation for the motorized shades was very complex. Special pockets had to be fabricated to accommodate a double shade in each pocket – one for sun control and the other for complete light black out. The room was also finished with expensive wood, which had to be matched and stained.

The project consisted of supplying and installing 3,308 shades and was completed in 35 days – well ahead of schedule. Work was done at night to minimize disruption to the fully occupied building. Careful measuring, scheduling with the tenants and coordinating with the manufacturer were required to ensure deliveries were made on time and the schedule was kept. The project was completed with no complaints from any of the occupants, GSA inspectors or the project manager.
