Metropolitan Transit Authority Grand Central Terminal
Metropolitan Transit Authority
Grand Central Terminal
East 42nd St. / Park Avenue
New York City, NY 10017

NATURE OF PROJECT:
Blast Mitigation

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Number of Windows Protected – 454 glass panes
Daylight application

TYPE OF FILM INSTALLED:
7-mil Clear Security Film

CHARACTER OF PROJECT:
Bomb blast protection for this famous high-traffic area offered a creative installation challenge. In order to properly install the security film, hundreds of small windows required a thorough cleaning of built up crud to attain effective film adhesion. Specialized equipment and veteran installers were required to manage the awkward installation.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
A steam pipe rupture less than a block away from the terminal caused an unforeseen shut down of Grand Central half way through the installation. Work resumed the following evening and despite the interruption, the entire project was completed in only a week, well ahead of schedule.

PROJECT MANAGER COMMENT:
“Your guys did a great job. Thanks! We certainly hope that you will bid again and we will certainly have more work coming up. You did an excellent job!”
-Michael Savchak, Project Manager
